Freelander Hardtop refuses to unlock tailgate

Any tips why a freelander convertible (hardtop) should suddenly refuse to operate the tailgate window, the tailgate wiper/washer, or unlock/lock tailgate (even with key), and engine not start (although turning over) after fitting a new floor carpet interior and leather seats? Clues are I had the car radio on, and the car key in ignition 'Accessories' position when I went around the back and the tailgate swung shut on me, then locked itself. Checked fuses for the only indicated electrical problems and all seem okay. A pair of flimsy wires under the floorshift stick console appear to have been neatly cut by person unknown, I can't remember if they appeared fine before this all happened.

Immobiliser doesn't reset sync, so the electric in-tank fuel pump appears to be not getting juice from the ecu/ems, but otherwise I am stumped by the tailgate not opening by hand with key (everything used to be fine at that end). There's a long 'beeeep' when I use the console unlock/lock tailgate button.

I also have a bit of an issue.

I just bought an excellent condition 2001 Magna TJ VR-X. Love this car, flies....

Its a great car except for one thing that is really bugging me.

The TCL Light and Engine Warning Light comes on when I am in traffic and the car gets hot (no changes in Engine Temp Gauge).

I have been told its the Solenoid.

Doesn't affect drive BUT it is annoying.

    Thanks.

Yeah Jaycee, get it to a competent mechanic with a scan-tool that knows how to use it and they should be able to isolate the problem for you mate! Don't stuff around with "he said/ she said crap". Expect to pay a charge for a competent mechanic to diagnose/use the scan-tool though...but it saves a lot of miss-diagnosis by cowboys!

    Cheers,

    Mick
