    Volcanic glass primitive bowie knife.

Thought I would share this, its just a quick overview of knocking up an obsidian knife and using traditional materials.
Ok so I started off with a bought pre shaped rainbow obsidian blade, far from useable it was about 1mm thick on the blade side.

Handle attempt number 2, still not keen on the rusa antler.
    IMG_20180103_213134.jpg

Thinned out the edge with percussive flaking and then had a slip fitting the handle. Sharp sh!t this.

That aha moment, the handle for this beast was under the work bench the whole time! Note the notches in the tang area now.

Pine pitch- IMG_20180105_172933.jpg getting ready to make primitive glue.
1/4 parts crushed charcoal to 3/4 parts pine resin.

Horn is filled with the glue and blade is glued in place........
    To be continued..........

    Part 2-
The goat horn was filled with flaming hot glue and blade fitted in place, surprisingly solid, when the glue cools it turns very hard.

Rawhide wrap, rawhide is soaked and then applied while soft then dries hard {ATTACH=CONFIG]26070[/ATTACH]

Sharpening the blade is done by chipping the edge using the pressure flaking technique.
Note the antler tool has different edges to do different parts.

Looking great and sharp as fark with lots of paper thin shards along the serated edge. Looks absolutely beautiful. Pleased with it so far. Awesome
